It is hearsay to say that it is a "fact" that the gay community lauds irresponsible sex. Nothing could be further from the truth regarding what gay centers do to educate any and all at risk populations about AIDS.
What they DO is to give tips to those who are going to be sexually active. They DO say that abstinence is the only sure fire method of preventing infection with HIV as far as sexual transmission goes. Then they give alot of information for the sexually active on how to properly use, store condoms and what kinds to buy. They also educate people regarding sex when infected. They discourage anal sex. They discourage multiple partners. But they are realistic when it comes to the fact that people will have sex. One of the fastest growing populations in Houston for HIV infection is the wealthier, older executives. Why? They fool around feeling impervious to infection, and bring back more than flowers to their spouses. This info. I got from a long time heterosexual gynecologist here. Education is a very important tool for risk reduction! You may want to contact a gay organization that educates people regarding AIDS, or visit a Gay establishment, like a coffee shop and notice the regular periodicals that come out with info on the latest stats regarding infection, regarding treatment etc. They do not hide or smother AIDS awareness, education or stats. Check it out and see what you find out. If you want. I am sorry if I came off in a manner taken as condescending or disrespectful of you. I am not as good in cyber communication as I am in person and have much to learn in that area. :)
