I was aware of the Greek attitude towards women that you point out. The first 10 pages of my paper on this subject discuss other similar examples, particularly from Plato, Homer and Aristophanes. However, I had never made the connection between those attitudes and the Sythians/Amazons as enemies of the Greeks. Very interesting!
