Typing out the MO Letter index was very illuminating. Now, I obviously havn't read all of the MO Letters, but I have read quite a few. But typing the index out as they appear in the volumes is interesting. They seem to show certain patterns to the the man, David Berg. I learned a lot.
First of all, after typing thousands of lines of MO letter titles, I'm now an expert at putting an exclamation mark in a sentence without looking at the key board! I could never do that before! I can also type out numbers now with out peeking! WoW! I actually learned something of value and use from my COG experience!
Secondly, I learned that DB seemed to move away from an obsession with Davidito and onto more attention with Techi.
Thirdly, I realize that David Berg went through odd obsessions with certain topics.
Fourthly, I learned that the COG seems to be a Spiritualist/occult group, not a Christian group as such. I thought this before, but looking at the MO letter index, this seems to be the case.
Fifthly, I learned that the COG is more outwardly abusive than most cults. I saw and experienced emotional abuse in the Hare Krishnas, however, I never saw anyone publically humiliated like David Berg seemed fond of doing. What other organization publically humiliates a member through the printed page? The more I think about this, the more it bothers me about David Berg and the COG. I wonder if Maria has continued this practice?
