I met an Ex-Member last year who continues in a three person marriage. When they left the Family, they could not figure out who should have to leave, so they just all stayed together.

But, this person told me that it does present a lot of challenges in their quiet little town. Some people have been told that one of the women is the wife and the other is the spinster sister, and others have been told the opposite. So, they always have to remember who thinks what. The town is so conservative, they would not be able to come clean about the relationship. It must be very difficult.

Even though I wasn't in the Family, I've had similar experiences in trying to explain the makeup of our family. Why one of them was born in Italy, things like that. I have different explanations for different people. The mildest is usually that my wife was a member of a Christian missionary group.
