We are doing fine, thanks anyway. I think sympathy means something else and I don't share that opinion. People can have empathy without ever having to exactly live as the other person did. What you are doing is like the people who sit smug on their seats and criticize battered women - I've heard - "Oh, they deserve it, they keep going back, they should leave, they could have left, they chose to stay...." These people not only have no sympathy, they have no understanding or empathy and don't even want to try. They live happy in their ignorance and refuse to put themselves in someone elses shoe or try and understand why they would do the things they do or did.

Yes, it's true, you don't have sympathy and you don't know what exmembers have gone through. It doesn't make you very credible as a good source for counsel or support.

Another thing that you seem very black and white on is that everyone did not have exactly the same experience or the same situation and everyone is different. You judge everyone the same and it's just not the way it is.
