Ararat got mixed reviews here in Europe. I didn't see it. I think the director is Armenian-Canandian. Charles Aznavour, Armenian-French, the singer/actor, someone with lots of class, acts in it does the theme song for it, so it's gotten a lot of copy in the French press and the movie was a success in France. Turkey has been outraged of course.
That's quite a big subject the Armenian genocide.
When I lived in Russia, I met lots of people from the Central Asia countries. Especially when I was shopping in the big markets, or trying to get a taxi at a train station. I can only go by a limited number of experiences and personal impressions here: but there were lots of mafia types from Azerbaijan that I didn't like & never trusted. But when I met Armenians they were much more genuine, and weren't trying to rip you off; such as forcing you to get a taxi at some incredibly ridiculous price. For sure they have their mafia too. It seemed that if you made friends with someone Armenian it was sincere; we made good Georgian friends too.
