P.S. -- We do need fantasy though

As long as it's relaxation and time off, reading, movies and whatever, away from the daily grind. The danger is when your whole worldview is fantasy, like it is in the Family, and when you believe the fantasy to be real.

Some people would see spirituality and faith itself as fantasy, a crutch for the weak, but I don't believe that. Certainly we are in this world and need to do everything we can to make good things happen, earn a living, etc. and not expect divine intervention at every step. We can't be like I used to be when going to the supermarket to shop: "Lord if you love me, give me a parking spot."

I think we can have whatever level of faith we want without disappearing into some make-believe world of fantasy, as long as we don't think God is like a genii in a bottle and just "has" to obey us, give us goodies. If our theology allows our concept of God to be out of the bottle and big enough as he truly is, then we can still be spiritual and yet sane in a sane world.

Maybe this string should be continued on Journeys? I'll repost it over there.
