Governments vs citizens

Posted by Viewpoint on March 27, 2003 at 12:41:35

Most of the U.S. backs Bush's war on Iraq. Interesting yesterday that even the former Democratic prez, Bill Clinton, backed Bush on this. Some people think Gore wouldn't have waged war had he won (or if all the ballots in Florida had been recounted), but who knows. We can't live in imagination land. We have to deal with the realities.

The reality is that most of Australians are against the war yet their government is in it. Most of Japan is against the war yet their government supports it. (Japan is heavily dependent on Mideast oil.)

Most Canadians are against the war, and their leader waffled and side-stepped and did the two-step for months and finally decided against war. It makes you wonder what their leader would do if conditions were slightly different.

The Pope speaks out as a great pacifist against war yet he still hasn't apologized to the Jews for a past pope making a pact with Hitler and standing by while millions of Jews were killed.

Now Turkey wants to get into the war 'to help set up Kurdish refugee camps.'

Is anyone really talking straight or doing anything with pure motives?
