Here's a question

Posted by Acheick on September 08, 2003 at 10:14:49

In light of these recent discussions, something that was on my mind before, becomes an issue again. This type of scenario crosses over into daily life, it's not just an excult problem. It's an everyday life thing.

What if:

You had a family member that was being sexually abusive to some younger member in your family. Or, there was a young wife who had an abusive husband. Or pick some scenario of a criminal action going on.

However, this person was in a position of great importance and was doing a lot of good in the community, had a wonderful family, everybody liked them. Maybe they were even a pastor of a church and the congregation adored them.

Yet, you knew of this dirty little secret. Would you expose them and risk the explosive aftermath once their family found out, the community, etc., and the chance for this person to spend the rest of their life in jail? The other members of the family suffering humiliation and great trauma? Having to move away in shame. Or would you hope that things would work out somehow, so as to avoid hurting the rest of the family.
