No, they don't get it. Sociopaths are scarey people. I contend Maria & Peter don't get it because they lack a normal conscience.

Interesting that Maria & Peter should tell parents that anything their children say that pricks the conscience is from the devil. How are Family members supposed to know they have wronged someone if they can't trust the voice of their own conscience?

Maria's letter reminds me of the friendly debate that Jo & I got into over neurotic guilt (condemnation). I believe that guilt feelings can be healthy, particularly when they prompt a person to take responsibility for their past and present choices. Problem for many Family members is that they don't know what healthy guilt is or how to use it constructively--top leadership has never modeled this type of behavior, only irresponsibility and phoney compassion.
