I agree that FEELING powerless to make a self-directed, free-will choice is neither good nor bad. In fact I, on rare occasions, find myself in situations where my choices are limited, and I am forced to chose one out of several unpleasant options. The fact of the matter remains that, the 20 or so thousand FGAs who joined TF out of the hundreds or millions that were "witnessed" to by Tf, were not tied up and carted away. That they could leave of their own free will is evidenced by the fact that many have and continue to do so. I don't know that I agree with you when you say that assigning blame is not particularly productive. Or maybe it's a question of specific aims. I want those who had a hand in the abuses or in perpetuating an abusive system, to at the very least recognize their culpability and at the other end of the spectrum, pay for their crimes with what ever punishment society deems appropriate and workable. The penalty to fit the crime, of course.
