Within the family, while under the control of that system, doubts about Berg and his leadings however destructive were neutralized. But conscience was not altogether.
By this I mean that where an antisocial gang banger may set a cat on fire, things that did not concern Berg and the family could be acted upon, like taking in a kitten and feeding strays.
But PTSD shuts down emotion for puposes of survival. And someone that loves animals could then abandon them because they are shipped off in the night to somewhere else.
