The past makes up who you are today

and you are so right that there is no way to simply forget it, wash it away, as if it didn't happen. That will not help and will only excaberate the problem. You do need to deal with it. I heard a therapist say once, "You must deal with your pain, if you don't, it will meet you." Something to that effect. WE have to realize that TF was a traumatic experience for us. We were deceived, we were taken advantage of, we were sexually and emotionally abused. We often lost our spiritual connection or relationship with God because of it, we have a hard time trusting because of it, we have a hard time with relationships because of it. It does get better, but it's a slow process and it's something that has to be worked on. No one can wiggle their nose and make it go away. One thing that is helping me is to think that at least I got out, at least I have given my children a second chance at life and they appreciate that. All is not lost.
