That's the point

Counting one's self as an ex-member does not necessarily qualify.

It would be stupid to think of tribunals to decide something like this. Each one of us can recognize Family people, we know the smell. You mention Barney but there were and are others who are still clinging to Family doctrines even as they call ex members. Tithing is at best only a minor indication but there is more than that. It has to do with with attitudes, with the environment they foster, with what they say and who they hang out with, etc.

Incidntly, while Barney's status may have been known to a few insiders, he never addressed the point publicly and NEVER EVER took any step to dennounce TF or its teachings. His way of life was enough to show he had not made the break. Of course, some of us are so far away from that life style by now that it is obvious to us but there are many who still long, yearn and moan for that free-for-all type of heroic spoil-the-system life. It would not be so obvious to them.

In any case, Maria and I share something, the fact that we are glad that Barney is not in the picture (at least for now).
