That maybe tone of the results but even then if it were so democratic then the non-democratic candidates will cater to the rest of the nation. C'mon, where is the common sense? Are you suggesting that candidates will confine themselves to an area that is adevrse to them?
Also, review the Federalist papers and those of the FF and see the aversion they have against the "populace" to understand why the voting system in this country is what it is. They wanted the educated - read people with property, that is money - make the decisions.
