Consider two groups:

1) 2,3,8,8,10,55,50,80,100
2) 1,2,2,2,10,15,18,21,22

The median in both cases is 10. That is why one needs other descriptive measures such as the standard deviation. Even for this measure there is not total agreement and the actual value may differ for different methods. Also there is the issue of continuity I mentioned before. It is all in the assumptions.

I am not trying to debung any statistics, I am just careful to draw conclusions from them without knowing more about where they are coming from.

OK, I am not a statistics professor but I will dismiss the class now. Make sure to do your homework.
