I don't know what tax book you use, but people i know and jobs i have held making less than 25k a year were taxed to nearly 1/3 of income. That is pretty high. And where wealthier are taxed, they get it back in tax shelters, breaks, business expenses etc which their CPA's arrange for them so that they do pay far less in taxes.
