I think it's a knee-jerk reaction to always villify the corporation and cannonize the supposed crusader. The book you refer to sounds like the typical anti-capitalist, anti-business, eat-the-rich pap I've heard from the academic elitists who live in ivory towers.
Not all corporations are evil, just as not all people are evil.
