Chineese is a tonal language

One aspect of Chineese that makes it a real challenge, is that it is a tonal language. This means that you can often have a word that has two or mor meanings and the different meanings are determined by a kind of sing-song tone.

We westerners can make some very embarassing blunders by using the wrong tone with a word. You might intend to say "Your mother looks beautifull," but it comes out "Your mother looks horrible."

Ah yes...languages can be ooo much fun!
