As I have posted on this board before, but when I left the Family in 1999, I was a single mom with multiple kids and the Home I was in was a "regular" Home in Texas. When I left, without my asking, they gave me cash of about $1,500- not a fortune, but since I had been on the teamwork, I am aware that it was a very big sacrifice for them. They did it because they were good people, plain and simple.

My mother paid for a rental car for me to drive to her home where she put us up till we got our feet on the ground, and I must say the money they gave made it a lot easier to get out of Mom's small place and get an initial apartment.

Anyway, I certainly believe that the Family should look at people as "retirees" instead of "backsliders" and give at least some help like this. They are always saying how they only want the "truly dedicated" to stay in the Family...offer a "severance package" and then let's see how many really dedicated missionaries are left.
