If you watch the documentary "Berkeley in the 60's" you will understand MUCH about the social context in which Berg operated and found fertile ground for his desire for power over people. For me it was so surprising to find out that some of those folks I saw in the documentary reminded me of ppl I met in TF and so-called ppl from "the early days."

I think social and historical context is essential to understand how certain movements could take form. The 60's were a very particular time in American history for many different reasons. The THREE defining issues of those times -- for me -- are detailed in the documentary I mentioned above, the entire story and case of "Charles Manson and The Family," (crimelibrary.com is a great site for such investigations) and the Scorsese documentary on Bob Dylan. They are all great period pieces that put more pieces into the puzzle of how Berg and the movement came together as they did.
