It is no secret what Berg thought about illness getting in the way of serving God.

In ML2345, Berg obviously thought it was better to die quickly rather than slowly, suffering from AIDS.

"7. WELL, WHICH IS BETTER?--TO DIE FROM AN ACCIDENT & GO HOME TO HEAVEN IN A HURRY, OR TO DIE A SLOW DEATH FROM AIDS & one disease after another, one horrible affliction after another, die a slow death over a period of years?"

Then Maria suggested the shunning of HIV/AIDS victims:

"4. AND EVEN IF SOMEONE HAS IT, WE MAY HAVE TO ISOLATE THEM"

Along with AIDS came the standard idea applied to all other illnesses: that you can get healed if you are a sincere Christian, and you don't get healed because you don't have the faith for it.

"SO WE CAN'T RULE OUT THE FACT THAT PEOPLE IN THE FAMILY, PEOPLE WHO LOVE THE LORD & ARE SINCERE CHRISTIANS, CAN BE HEALED OF AIDS"
