Something that helped me put my Family experience and "Dad" in a helpful perspective is understanding the impact of Berg's alcoholism and "Mama's" enabling on relationships. There's an article by MG on this site called Alcoholic Prophet that I recommend for understanding just how powerful Berg's alcoholic addiction was. Depression, anxiety, low self esteem...chronically blaming oneself and feeling ashamed and guilty, never good enough...these are all typical feelings that come from living under the influence of an alcoholic. It's called a family disease for a reason.

Then there's all the emotional problems come from growing upgrade in a "using" environment. By "using" I mean an environment where out-of-control addictive behavior seems normal or is labeled "godly" and "prophetic". Lots of anger simmering just beneath the surface: How does one manage to live with so much dis-ease and carry on the business of daily living?
