The most damaging cults are the ones where purported religion or first amendment issues are used as a smokescreen or excuse to enslave and exploit people, infringing on their human rights. It is a human rights issue, not a 'religious' issue.

I was recently reading through a great series of journalistic articles in the Village Voice. Tony Ortega has done such a good job exposing the works of Scientology (another very destructive cult).

The more I read, the more I think about the similarities with TFI and wonder if in the 80' and 90' Berg and Zerby were getting advice/sharing info with these people? Also the Tampa Bay had a series of revealing articles in 2009. I can post the links, but they can be easily found.

I think the public should care about scams and fraud. I do care. I only wish I knew all this stuff before I was recruited! If it was any kind of economic fraud or scam you would warn people about it - I see it as a 'human rights' type of fraud.

And in the case of Scientology, they also deny deny deny and discredit anybody who comes out and tells the truth. They even keep 'ethics file' on people, with all their 'confessions' during auditing etc. Then they use this information to hold them hostage or discredit them if they ever talk. I am thinking about all those written confessions that Berg used to require of people after putting them through torture. Did they take a page out of Scientology manuals?

Check out Marty Rathbun's blog - it is very interesting.

So to go back to your question, it is important to point out fraudulent products and activities that can be harmful to others.
