I was just thinking the same thing this morning when I got up. I started smiling over the silliest thing and at the same time, I had a keen sense of God's lovingkindness.
I don't think it's necessary to attribute an abiding sense of joy & easy laughter to faith in God, btw. To me, it's really the sign of a maturing spirituality.
When my father was in his last days, he laughed all the time. He wasn't a particularly happy man most of his life. I also saw this happen with my grandmother, who worried endlessly and felt like she was under condemnation for the least little thing she did. In her last months of life, she laughed easily and frequently.
It seems like when you finally start letting go of stuff and accepting your mortality, you can see the humor in so many things.
