Fascinating! Thank you for taking the time to write all of this. I find your section on the initial creators of colonies. I have heard other stories about most of the first initial colonies in the Americas to have commercial goals. The couple of colonies with people who had that fled Europe and England for religious reasons had an autocratic government and yet also had some sort of democratic representation, but only among the “elders”. If a person didn’t believe like them, off the person went. No much different from the family, or the inquisition.

With only a few “elders” deciding, was there a separation between church and state then? Well, they were so few that maybe it wasn’t practical to think in these terms. History leaves too many questions. It may help us understand the present but doesn’t change it. We are living in a dangerous present with dangerous people with cultic fanaticism.
