I am happy that you consider His existence...you know, I have a book of a German preacher, pastor, with a Ph.D. in theology, who considers all the writings of Paul a forgery...forgery, fabricated in the 2nd century...hence Paul is a mere invention (of the school around Marcion, the heretic)...
People who don't have faith, no "mystical" experience with Christ, no being born again, can tend to make a profession out of "their" theology,
earn their money with it.
As the church also did defend the 9/10commandments , it also upheld some morality & not every one likes to be preached at about some lack of morality...In Mt 24:12 it talks about an endtime when iniquity (lawlessness) abounds...the lifestyle: do as you please is therefore also supported by misguided theologians.
See, I cannot conceive a prophet without the Holy
Spirit, that makes the prophet according to my books a false prophet...many people have respect for Jesus as some sort of social reformer, some old time-revolutionary...who nearly died & had also "some time to go to India", after being taken from the cross by supporters etc. etc.
Like with a construction kit you can combine those theories of unbelief ad infinitum.
Unless someone is at the end of his personal route or rope, I don't think that person is prepared for a life with Jesus, as a personal Saviour, cause he/she doesn't need a saviour...feels fine as he/she is...it means also having a sensitivity for what sin is, e.g. that it's sin to steal, lie etc, even if no one is looking or a witness, the "golden opportunity".
