It all has to do with beginning and closing concepts, which all religions and philosophies try to offer as the answer to everything. Taken from the first and last books of the bible:
1) CONQUER AND SUBDUE THE EARTH -- Genesis 1:28 "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth."
2) SAVED CHRISTIANS GET A NEW EARTH -- Revelations 21:1 "And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away"
And somewhere in between 1) and 2) some Christians get to have a fuck-it-all attitude about caring for the planet. Why bother if God will restore everything, all godly and useful species, and give us another Garden of Eden at the end of it all? Why bother to care about saving the earth when the we share it with antiChrist forces who will destroy it with their wars? Why bother worrying about all kinds of disasters and minor problems like global warming when faced with the biggest climactic event of all -- Armagedon and the return of Jesus?
