Katie, I am well aware of what you are asking, and am studying the pattern quite a bit myself, lately. As a basket weaver for over 20 years, I'm real into patterns. I read a lot and don't watch/own television. It seems to me that a lot of this has to do with what is termed the "Christian Right", which I see as more a political attitude than a spiritual one. Like the one author I heard say recently, "No matter what religion you say you are, if you live in the USA, your religion is that of North American Capitalism" (Tariq Ali, I think). A pentacostal preacher told me once, " Jesus called us to be fishers of men, not to clean up the fish bowl". However, through the scriptures and the example of Jesus, it seems plain to me that we are to be responsible for our actions (ALL of our actions)and we are to be good stewards of whatever we have been blessed with, including our planet/environment/suroundings. We are also instructed to be 'content with such things as we have'...not always coveting mooore. (I only have 10 more mins. on this library computer...) Two books I got a lot out of lately: Small is Beautiful, by E.F. Schumacher (1973), and Small is Still Beautiful, by John Pearce (2006). Real good reads that really support the idea of a sincere need for a clearer spiritual perspective on what we're doing to our planet and to each other. We'll talk to ya later. Keep on keepin' on, love ya, Mark
