I liked the music because I'm still a rebel at heart, so even at 55, I get into some head banging riffs from time to time. I also identify more with people who are unchurched than with those who are in the church. This isn't because I think people in churches are clueless about Christian discipleship, the way TF teaches. It's more like, "Burn me once, shame on you, burn me twice, shame on me." I'm fairly certain I'll never affiliate with a church again because I find it nearly impossible to trust institutionalized religion. I've tried several times at a couple of different churches, but there's always something that triggers me. I can get into head banging, but not the kind where I keep smacking my emotions up against a very painful experience of betrayal. It's no accident that Dante placed people who betray the trust of others in the lowest, slimiest pits of "The Inferno."
