With Catholics, it's more like they can do the cross, but not the resurrection. From what I've read of MT's trials, she was big time into suffering (the cross)--and what could be more profound in the way of suffering than to live for Christ (and little else), yet have no tangible sense of his presence, no consolation in his company? It's like forever laying the grave--dark night of the soul--with no resurrection joy to animate the spirit.
