But if you are interested in reading an historically and philosphically astute overview from a noted theistic philosopher and scientist that might at least challenge some of your assumptions, PB, I would encourage you to check out "The Twilight Of Atheism" by Alistir McGrath. Pretty comprehensive study of the development of atheistic thought from the Enlightenment to the current debates, w/ connections to the historical outworkings.
It is no "Get Out Of Jail Free" card for the RCC, of course, but an interesting balance.
