I read the article in the meantime twice & I bet, it would take another few times to avoid any mistakes in responding...but the article doesn't really sit right with me, so to speak...
The author suspects some of the Christian fundis to have a doublefold attitude towards the Jews,
one for the "goodies", embracing/welcoming them
& "provoking" the others in order for them to get better.
Well that strategy isn't really restricted to some Christians, but is pretty common, I'd say...
Then he pictures America as somewhat similar to
Germany in the twenties, before Hitler rose to power...does he like to exaggerate or did I get that wrong? If you believe in some decline of America, I do too, but of much of the western world in general.
It's alright to journalistically etc. single out a preacher, who thinks that God sent Hitler.I have no problem in saying that God didn't prevent Hitler...& that is something which bothered a lot of Jews, where they actually lost much or all of their OT-faith...how could there be a God allowing all that to them.
Next I want to stress, that in general, no matter what country...though the least of all America...
(as being Israels best & biggest friend)..it is best, to let a Jew criticise a Jew & they do that actually plenty...(I don't know how much Berg was actually a Jew?????)....& in Germany you have to be xfold careful, what you say or write about the Jews or worldwar two, because the freedom of speech has it's limits here, not all is allowed especially if it is flaming speech inciting illfeelings especially with the Jews or is infering in general with the dignity of people, being part of the constitutional law (like talking heavily against gays etc.)...much of the Neo-Nazi-propaganda in the earlier days came from the US...as the freedom of speech is really something "else" there ...a big subject, I don't intend to get into or start...
But back to my point: unless you deny, that the NT was written by the first converts, mostly being Jews, well then, you have to admit, that the NT is pretty antisemitic in itself...allthough I dislike that term & I think Berg was right on that one, Semites happen to be not only the Jews but a good many Arabs, so that term is really a bit awkward...funny, that Jews haven't protested against that.
On top of that, one should also be aware of the fact, how difficult it is for a Jew to convert to Christianity in modern Israel, far from being easy
or rather with quite some consequences, one of them could mean, that the flesh & blood family shuns you like mad & kind of declares you as dead...nonexistent...6 I think that shows, that also Christianity isn't very much liked by a good many Jew...so why isn't the author also adressing that???
And as far as that Comic is concerned...sigh...I mean it isn't more antisemitic--that stupid term--- than the NT...or has someone difficulties here remembering John or Matthew 23 e.g....sure, it would have been better, to include "real scripture"...they had all kinds of Bibletranslation in Germany as well, one being the NT in slang...or the feminist version etc...I really am not for all such experiments...neither do I think that comic is solving much the illitaracy of many folks regarding the Bible...I think it's the wrong way
I think the author is not really exhausting the subject too much... a bit disappointing.
