When David was told of his sin by the prophet and that part of his punishment was going to be the life of the son he bore, he prayed and fasted but the son died. Then he cleaned up and went ahead to continue on the business of the day. When asked he said, that while the son was alive he prayed that God spare the life of the child but when the judgement was completed and the child was dead, there was no need to pray anymore.
This is a good time to pray and ask God for the lives of the children who might die in this war, that they be spared. This includes the children who are wearing uniform and carrying weapons. Peace on earth, as it is in heaven.
