I had to read through the thread with Becky and Farmer three times before I understood the joke.
"Well, duh" is another American English expression. It mean something like, "how obvious, but I was slow to see the point." It didn't even occur to me that Becky's subject line..."hear me singing???" was a quizzical response to "I hear you" as though I meant I could literally hear her singing.
It's so easy to misinterpret meaning.
There is a Helen Reddy song called "I am woman, hear me roar." Reddy never roars in the song, but the words convey the feeling of a lion's roar. The song is a bit of an anthem, which is a kind of musical "roar." That's how I read Becky's line, "hear me singing???" Like, listen to my words and you can (metaphorically) "hear me singing."
