your link doesn't work anymore as so often with youtube...infringement on whatever rights...
here's an interesting article about views on "modern" Christian songs or one song in particular
"Draw Me Close to You" was written by Kelly Carpenter.
I had to LOL at the description, that Chuck Colson audibly in church replied "No" to the question, whether the congregation would want to sing that song again/repeat it.
I know, that the musical leaders in churches can be at times a bit pushy...I know the women in my church are a bit that way...wanting to preach a bit between the lyric lines and sometimes choose songs which are too jazzy in tune or the lyrics "lack" or whatever...
Frankly I find the voice in that particular song...whoever sings it...a bit too "pressed" and squeeky...a bit too "worldly", where you know, that they must/want to sound different than other artists to sell their stuff "big time", which should never be the primary motive for Christian musicians...I figure...
I stopped buying CDs of the WOW Worship series for quite long now...since musicians seem to use any beat/style now to transport their very mediocre, ambigious lyrics
In TF terms...this song is a bit GPyish...as the name Jesus is missing & truly, sung in a nightclub/bar, one could definetely wonder/ask as a searching sinner, who in or out of this world deserves such devotion...which of course would/could lead to a good discourse
I do agree, that some songs composed in modern times are emotionally "stronger"...but they are seldom "theologically" very correct or feeding (to ponder about/convicting)...
so they appear at times a bit diluted, to appeal to a bigger public...not unlike the GP tapes of TF..having been sold also in Muslim countries etc.
What nerved me today in church was this need for acustically/electrically amplified umph in the teenagers band...only 2 songs I really liked by them and fitted their age and level of experience or their abilities...
Actually the sermon on worldwide persecuted Christians made up for the lack of the other...
May be you can find another working link for that song??
