Here's a link to the church I joined. It's part of a larger movement, but not defined by that movement. More like an emergent church in many ways. The mission statement is simple.

Early one Sunday morning last winter I took a walk in my neighborhood and said, "Lord, lead me to the church you want me to join." First I stopped at a Presbyterian church about a block up the street, because I felt like I could probably handle hanging out with Presbyterians since they have a big social justice message. They weren't open for business yet, even though the sign said Sunday school was open. I tried another church futher up the road, but they weren't open for business yet, either. Next door I saw folks going into a school building, which is used on weekends for worship.

There are lots of young families. Goth types sit next to straight folks. We have bikers and college faculty. Sometimes we're joined by Brother Francis, a Catholic monk doing outreach work with the poor. Our church helped him get a car. The music is contemporary, and they hand out a CD of their worship music to all newcomers. The pastor wears a T-shirt & blue jeans and has tatoos. He's funny as heck. The community, which is basically folks in my neighborhood, is about 50/50 liberal and conservative.
