It's what I see more and more, that we are all a part of the problem. Yes there are also international corporations doing world-class damage to the earth, economy, human morals. etc. But we are often a part of it more than we know.
Whenever I have a chat with "greenies" who think they are being so proactive and aware, fighting for all kinds of causes and criticizing big $ multi-nationals, I always point to the jeans they are wearing and tell them they are part of the problem:
Denim is as a rule dyed in 3rd-world countries where the rules are lax, and millions of tons of used toxic blue dye is discharged into streams and rivers every year. It's so bad that astronauts can see all these blue streaks from space. The stone washing and chemically-treated cotton has been known to really do a number on rivers and the soil, severe damaging the entire eco system.
I don't tell the "greenies" that to make them feel bad, just to make a point that we all have an impact on the environment and each other more than we think. We try to be proactive and end up with so many brands to boycott, so many products not to support, so many foods not to eat, and yet, in the end everything we do or don't do has a flip side to it. If we buy local, we cut down on the carbon footprint, but we put farmers abroad in poorer countries out of work, etc. In the end it's just next to impossible to live normally without hurting something unless we all grow our own food and make out own fuel and make our own clothes. Either that or we learn to live on air.
