The NIV is the closer to the Greek, Aramaic, and Hebrew as it comes from later transcripts. I use a number of versions. I like to check different versions as some got the point across better than others. I use the NLT quite a bit especially when reading to others. It has a way with words. biblegateway.com is great, with lots of versions. Also blueletterbible.com as you can get the original language translations and also has the pronunciations, which I like. If I had nothing but time I would like to be a Greek, Hebrew expert.
