If the truth be known, I think that's the way most people view salvation, even if unconsciously. If they know they've screwed up, or given in AGAIN to some besetting sin, they do little extras to make sure to keep their averages up; to stay in God's "good graces". I know I still have to fight that kind of thinking in myself from time to time. DB's theology wore some pretty deep grooves in our brains.
