In my experience words are not enough to express everything we think. People like to discuss Goedel in many contexts, this is one of them. This is because the universe of thoughts is much larger than the universe words can put together.
You nail it: "What matters to me when it comes to the scriptures, is what they mean to the person concerned, how it comes alive for them personally, and how they relate to it".
We express ourselves in words, in actions, etc. but meaning is a so subjective that it cannot be easily conveyed. Meaning and the representation of meaning (semiotics) is a fascinating topic that only something like the Holy Spirit can bridge - and then only within our own personal universe of concepts, thoughts, and our most intangible part (our soul, I guess). So each one of us has only one part of that truth, what corresponds us.
