Thinker:
I also like you posting name--I said that to "Peace" recently, as well. We exchanged views about "Chaos Theory"; among other things.
I learned to "machine-gun" all of the apparent "OSAS" verses (OT & NT) while in TF. I discovered I had a BIG capacity for eidetic/photographic memorization of Scripture.
Then I ran across a tape by Joel Wordsworth which mentioned all of the "doubtful verses" on the subject--he had the same gift but used it to make himself an "expert" on "all things Mo" in Scripture, like the blasphemously presumptuous "David, etc." verses on thte Set Card we all eventually memorized.
Berg tried to destroy all Joel's tapes; but failed, because people liked them. Joel became a rival, as did Stephen, the guy Jane married after Berg dumped her for Maria. Joel and Stephen got "fired" by Berg.
I was a "closet Berean", who searched to see IF things I was told were TRUE in Scripture--that's why I only lasted 2 1/2 years in the cult; I guess.
Secretly, I also memorized all the verses indicating salvation DID have conditions (passage after passage, NOT read to Berg's pseudo-Calvinistic interpretation), like 1 Cor 6, Gal 5, the Rev verses about Jezebel, 2 Peter 2 ("...better to NOT have known...", etc.).
I won't attempt a full/exhaustive exegesis of all the pertinent verses, here. That usually brings more heat than light.
ALL of this, plus the presence of the LORD, and then the ensuing "terror of the LORD" followed, all night, the night before the day I left (Independence Day, 1974!).
I wanted, at that point, to be granted full repentance, more than I wanted my next breath; believe me. I wanted NONE of tthe judgement coming on Berg and ALL of his followers (2 Peter 2, and Jezebel's judgement!!!)
The sins listed in 2 Pe 2, 1 Cor 6, and Gal 5 each have their own consequences--if we live in any of them a long time and refuse to repent, we reap their particular type of corruption, and being forgiven and washed and re-sanctified from them can take quite a long time; with much crying and praying for help from God and others to be changed.
