I found a simple way to understand where the ten commandments fit into a New Testament relationship with the Lord. The flesh inclines toward sin which is outlined by the law. The wages of sin is still death. Apart from abiding in Jesus we fall into sin. Through the blood of the Lord we are cleansed as we confess and forsake evil. We are made spiritually alive by believing and obeying the gospel. The ten commandments were all reinstated by the Lord in the New Testament, except the Sabbath law which was given to the Jews as a memorial of their having been brought out of Egypt. If we deny ourselves and the lusts of the flesh to walk in the Spirit the very life of God pours into us to enable us and make us alive in Christ. We have to recognize that the way of carnal man is desperately evil and inclines only unto death, but that the way of Jesus Christ leads unto eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The book of Romans covers this subject in detail. We have to live for the Lord, by faith and war against evil because otherwise Satan will hold us under his power. The churches today are in big trouble because they teach that grace is a license to sin, when it is actually the gift of God's Spirit to set us free from our evil ways. For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast. Our Father puts His Holy Spirit in us to enable us to do good works so the glory all belongs to God. We have to abide in Jesus Christ by faith and hold fast to the free gift of eternal life. If we abide in Him we keep the commandments out of love for our Father in Heaven and our love towards man.
This is the narrow way that leads to eternal life.
The Lord bless you all!
