I am glad that you are out, and trying to think for yourself. From my own point of view (out since Independence Day 1974!), I can really identify.
The "sanction" of the morality of fellow TFers was, I assume, insufficient for you to remain there. They were ENTIRELY "closeted" from the rest of society; weren't they? No irony intended there.
I also realized the experience of dropping roles and false identities; post-cult. Quite a struggle for most.
I found mine again (true identity and role in life, that is) in a Christianity that had nothing to do with Berg's false version, and the true joy, peace and grace-filled righteousness has been completely gratifiying since that day I left (on a gradual basis; yes).
I am neither homophobic nor homophilic--I know some people insist no in-between status exist. It does. But I have gay and ex-gay friends, and have heard long, long stories about the gay community, and how it's not like the propaganda--far from it.
All I can say is that God's love for all is real, and I say that "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever. Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings" (Hebrews 13).
Free will, of course, is real, too. It's a choice. All my friends admit that; uncloseted and honest. Seriously.
Respecftully,
