Farmer, before you make up your mind in regard to Calvinism or Reformed Theology, please read the reformers like Luther and currently R C Sproul. Also Augustine greatly influenced Luther, so you might read him as well.

Often people who criticize the Reformed View do not fully understand it. And that's not to say that it's difficult to understand, but the critics often approach it with presuppositions, and a closed mind. Personally, all it took for me to believe it was studying Ephesians, Galatians, Romans, the Gospel of John in depth...not to mention much of the OT, and of course the work of the Holy Spirit in my life. However, I don't put people who don't believe that the reformers were correct in the category of heretics like some do to those of the Reformed View.
