DavID posted something on Crossfire about the "Utopian Urge", by someone named McMaken, from a libertarian website. The author puts forward some useful cautions, but some of his details, in my opinion, are wrong. A quote from the same article goes along with what you've posted here about Calvin:
"In both the religious and the secular versions of this creed is a belief that the State founded by the enlightened few, and subject to no earthly law, is uniquely suited to accomplish what the individual cannot. The individual then becomes an afterthought in the cosmic struggles that only the State can win."
