I think what I was trying to say is close to what you are saying. My relationship with the Lord is a subjective experience. Other people can (and do) judge that relationship by how I live and what I claim to believe, but ultimately no one--including me--can know with certainty whether my relationship with God is a valid one or whether the Lord I follow is the real Jesus Christ or whether the Spirit to which I yield is indeed God's Spirit.
Because scripture can be interpreted almost any way one chooses, it is difficult (if not impossible) to use scripture to prove anything with certainty. I can say something like, "The consensus of belief and opinion among Christians regarding this or that scripture or doctrine supports my belief that I'm following the real Jesus."
I would say there is a consensus of belief and opinion among Christians that Jesus does not want to have sex in the spirit with his followers. That consensus puts Karen Zerby's Loverboy Jesus at odds with the majority consensus. If the majority of Christ's Body here on earth agrees that the real Jesus does not want to boink his followers, then perhaps Zerby has cut herself off from the Body with respect to that belief. But perhaps she is also joined with the Body in some of her more orthodox beliefs?
Dunno...just thinking out loud...
Since we only see through the glass darkly, none of us is likely to be 100% correct in what we believe or 100% right on target in connecting with the real Jesus.
