Ha! I never thought of that for years. I definitely DON'T start praying by saying, "Thannnnkyou Jesus, thannnnnkyou Lord, Praiiiise you, Jesus". That kind of weirdness is long gone.
I seldom have a special "prayer time" for pretty much the same reasons you said. Burned out by the Family's weird attitude toward prayer. When I feel like praying I do but I just can't bring myself to force it.
You know what struck me recently? I was thinking how many Christians I know pray to God simply as a way of having a relationship with him, and ask for "things" secondary. In the Family prayer literally was not much more than "getting things from God," how to twist His arm and rub the genii bottle he was in.
