Ray, below you said about Berg, "Personally, i believe his christology was relatively orthodox, so the specific false teaching referred to here"even denying the Lord that bought them.." was not his chief downfall"
I get what you're saying that he could've had all his Christology (doctrines about God/Jesus) straight but it's what he did that condemns him. But Lydia mentioned a couple interesting points about his Christology and I'll add to them to give some food for thought. I'll agree Berg started relatively orthodox but here's where he ended up over the years. It would be interesting to read this list to any Christian you know and then ask, "Does this man have his Cristology" correct?
1) Berg had "visions" of Jesus having sex with his female followers.
2) Berg taught that Christ had VD when he died on the cross.
3) Virgin birth: Berg taught that God used the angel Gabriel to come in and have sex with Mary to create Jesus. Jesus' direct father was the angel Gabriel.
4) Berg had a vision of a drunken sexual orgy in heaven with Jesus and others.
5) The Holy Spirit is a female dressed in heart-shaped pasties and pearls, and Berg had sexual intercourse with her when he appeared before God's throne.
6) God did not create everything from "ex nilho" but from His own being.
7) God is like a genie in a bottle and tells Christians to command him what to do.
8) Christians have more mercy than God, so must pray for God to change his mind. Remember "The Women with More Mercy Than God"?
9) God gives the gift of fortunetelling to many gypsies. The girl possessed with a spirit of divination in Philippi actually had a gift from God.
10) You not only can cast out demons in the name of Jesus, you can cast them out in the name of David. Berg said, and I quote, "Only God is a match for your Father."
11) You do not need to say the name of Jesus Christ to be saved. Simply praying "Spirit of Light, come into my heart" will save you.
12) Repentance is not necessary for salvation. Simply get people to pray, "Spirit of Light come in my heart" and they're saved.
13) Even the Antichrist himself is more fair and just than God. In "Prayer for the Poor," when angry at God, Berg said and I quote, "All hail the Devil." Berg never apologized or recanted.
