I wonder about this, too. This schoolyear, I had several experiences in which I was awakened in the middle of the night and prompted to pray for a student, only to find out the next day that something life-threatening had happened to him or her.

A few weeks ago, I was driving down the road in the afternoon, and I had what I can only descrbe as a "dream", in which I was asked to read something to a student AT HIS BEDSIDE IN THE HOSPITAL. But I was wide awake. My first response was to pray for the boy. I found out the next day that he had been involved in a freak accident in which 3 or 4 separate things happened that could have killed him. He walked away shaken but unhurt.

On the other hand, my own children have had very close calls, and I had no intimation of danger at all. My mother died suddenly a few years ago, and I never even had a fleeting thought that something was wrong.

It raises lots of questions that I don't have the answers for.
